Every August the same calls start: the parenting plan worked fine all summer, and now school is starting and nobody agrees on who handles what. The plan on file controls, not the text thread. If your decree names one parent for education decisions, that parent enrolls the child. If exchanges happen at school, drop-off and pickup replace the parking lot handoff, which is exactly why judges like that clause.
The trouble comes when families quietly change the schedule and never change the paperwork. A side agreement keeps the peace until it does not, and the parent following the filed plan wins that argument every time. If the plan no longer matches your real life, Arizona has a process: a petition to modify parenting time or legal decision-making, with a proposed plan attached. Courts also limit how soon and how often a plan can be reopened, and whether your situation qualifies is a question for an attorney.
